Planning a wedding involves plenty of decisions, and figuring out what the groom and groomsmen will wear is one more thing to add to the list. If you have never rented a tuxedo or suit before, you might be wondering how the process works, when everyone needs to get measured, what is included in the rental, and when the tuxedos will be ready.
The good news? Renting wedding formalwear is easier than you might think!
At Sandra D’s Bridal Boutique in downtown Watertown, Wisconsin, we help grooms, groomsmen, fathers, and wedding parties coordinate their wedding day attire through our partnership with DuBois Formalwear.
Whether you are planning a classic church wedding, a rustic barn celebration, or an elegant ballroom reception, we are here to help make the formalwear process simple and stress-free.
If you are getting married in Wisconsin and wondering how tuxedo rental works, here is everything you need to know, from choosing your style to returning your rental after the wedding.
Step 1: Schedule Your Tuxedo or Suit Selection Appointment
The first step in renting a wedding tuxedo or suit is scheduling an appointment to choose your style.
At Sandra D’s Bridal Boutique, appointments are required for both formalwear selection and measurements. This allows us to give you the personal attention you deserve and enough time to coordinate your wedding party.
We recommend scheduling your tuxedo or suit selection appointment approximately 4 to 6 months before your wedding.
During your appointment, we will help you explore options from DuBois Formalwear and coordinate the overall look for your wedding.
You will have the opportunity to discuss:
Tuxedo or suit styles.
Jacket colors and styles.
Shirt options.
Vest or suspenders.
Ties or bow ties.
Dress shoes.
Coordinating looks for the groom, groomsmen, fathers, and other wedding party members.
Not sure whether you want a traditional black tuxedo, a navy suit, or something a little different? No problem! We can help you explore different looks and find an option that complements your wedding style.
Helpful tip for grooms: It is a good idea to have your wedding colors and bridesmaid dress colors selected before your formalwear appointment. Bringing a fabric swatch or color sample can help us coordinate the men's attire with the rest of the wedding party.
Step 2: Coordinate the Groom and Groomsmen
Once you have selected your formalwear style, it is time to coordinate the rest of the wedding party.
Depending on your wedding plans, you may need formalwear for:
The groom.
Groomsmen.
Fathers of the bride and groom.
Ushers.
Other family members participating in the wedding.
You do not necessarily have to dress everyone exactly alike. Some couples choose a slightly different look for the groom, while others prefer a coordinated appearance throughout the wedding party.
For example, the groom might wear a different vest or tie color to stand out, while the groomsmen wear matching suits or tuxedos.
Think about the overall look you want in your wedding photographs. Coordinating colors and styles can help create a polished appearance without making everyone look identical.
Once your styles have been selected, we can help organize the rental details for your wedding party.
Step 3: Schedule Measurements for Everyone in the Wedding Party
After selecting your formalwear, the next step is getting everyone measured.
At Sandra D’s, we recommend scheduling measurements approximately 2 months before your wedding, although 2 to 3 months ahead is a good general planning window.
Each person will need professional measurements to help determine the correct rental sizes.
Our measurement appointments typically take about 5 to 10 minutes per person.
A few things to know before your appointment:
Wear comfortable, lightweight clothing.
Avoid bulky sweaters, sweatshirts, or multiple heavy layers.
Be prepared to provide your current height and weight.
Bring socks if needed for shoe sizing.
One important thing to know about measurements at Sandra D’s: We take measurements to determine your rental sizing. You will not be trying on a complete tuxedo or suit during this appointment.
Your measurements help determine which sizes should be ordered for your final fitting.
What If My Groomsmen Live Out of Town?
This is one of the most common questions we hear from couples planning a Wisconsin wedding.
Not everyone in your wedding party will necessarily live near Watertown. You may have groomsmen traveling from Madison, Milwaukee, Green Bay, Minneapolis, or even out of state.
The good news is that everyone does not need to travel to Sandra D’s to get measured!
Out-of-town groomsmen can visit a formalwear store near their home to have their measurements taken. They can then provide those measurements to Sandra D’s so we can coordinate their rental.
This makes coordinating a wedding party much easier, especially when everyone lives in different cities or states.
A little planning goes a long way: Ask your groomsmen to complete their measurements early rather than waiting until the last minute. This gives everyone time to get their information submitted before the wedding.
Step 4: Pick Up Your Tuxedo or Suit and Try Everything On
Now comes the exciting part!
Your wedding tuxedo or suit typically arrives at Sandra D’s 2 to 3 days before your wedding.
When your rental arrives, we will let you know it is ready for pickup. We encourage everyone to come in as soon as possible to try on their complete outfit.
This final try-on is important because it gives us an opportunity to make sure everything fits properly before the wedding day.
During your pickup appointment, you will try on your rental items, which may include:
Jacket, Pants, Dress shirt, Vest or suspenders, Tie or bow tie, or Shoes
If something does not fit quite right, we can help with minor adjustments or arrange a size exchange when needed and available.
Our goal is to have you feeling comfortable and confident before you walk down the aisle.
Do not skip the final try-on! Even if you provided accurate measurements, trying on your complete outfit before the wedding helps catch any sizing concerns while there is still time to address them.
Step 5: Enjoy Your Wedding Day!
Once everyone has picked up their formalwear and checked the fit, you are ready for the big day!
Before leaving home or heading to the wedding venue, double-check that you have all of your rental pieces and accessories.
It can also be helpful to have one person in the wedding party familiar with how to put on the accessories, adjust the bow tie, or arrange the vest and jacket.
Most importantly, enjoy your day!
You have spent months planning, coordinating, and making decisions. Now it is time to celebrate with the people you love.
Step 6: Return Your Tuxedo or Suit After the Wedding
After the celebration, there is just one final step: returning your rental.
At Sandra D’s Bridal Boutique, tuxedo and suit rentals need to be returned by the following Monday between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
A few reminders:
Return all rental pieces and accessories.
Check pockets for personal belongings.
Make sure all items are included.
No dry cleaning is necessary before returning your rental.
Return everything by the required deadline to avoid additional late fees.
You can designate one person to return multiple rentals, which can be especially helpful when coordinating a larger wedding party.
And just like that, your formalwear rental is complete!
How Much Does It Cost to Rent a Wedding Tuxedo or Suit?
One of the biggest questions grooms have is how much they should budget for wedding formalwear.
At Sandra D’s Bridal Boutique, complete tuxedo and suit rentals range from $213 - $228 per person.
Even better, we offer a special incentive for wedding parties:
The groom's complete tuxedo rental is FREE with six paid complete rentals!
This is a great way to save when coordinating formalwear for your entire wedding party.
If you have questions about what is included in a complete rental or need pricing for individual items, ask us during your appointment.
