Can You Take a Wedding Dress Home the Same Day? Here's What You Need to Know.
It's one of those questions brides ask us all the time, and honestly, it's a great one: Can I walk out of the bridal boutique with my dress in hand today?
The short answer? Yes — and when that's possible, it's a really big deal. But the longer answer depends on a few things, and after 38 years of helping Wisconsin brides say "yes" to their dress, we want to walk you through exactly how it works.
How Wedding Dress Shopping Usually Goes
For most brides, the traditional bridal process looks something like this: you come in, try on gowns, fall in love with something, place a special order in your size, and then wait anywhere from five to six months for the dress to arrive. That timeline exists because most designer bridal gowns are made to order, which means they are constructed and shipped from overseas after your order is placed.
From there, you'll typically need 2 months for alterations, because even a dress ordered in your size rarely fits perfectly off the rack. Hems need to be taken up, bustles added, side seams adjusted. That's just part of the process, and it's worth doing right.
So if you're doing the math: if you want your dress by, say, a June wedding, you'd ideally be shopping by October or November of the year before.

So When Can You Take a Dress Home the Same Day?
You can take a gown home the same day when you purchase an in-stock, off-the-rack sample. These are gowns that are already here, already hanging on our racks, ready to be tried on and taken home. No waiting for a special order. No months of anticipation. You find your dress, you buy it, it comes home with you.
This happens more often than you might think, and it's especially common during bridal sales events which brings us to something pretty exciting happening right here in Watertown this July.
The National Bridal Sale Is Coming to Sandra D's — July 10–18
We are so thrilled to be participating in the National Bridal Sale, and this year's event runs July 10 through July 18 right here at Sandra D's Bridal Boutique on East Main Street in Watertown, WI.
The National Bridal Sale is a nationwide event where participating boutiques offer significant discounts on in-stock gowns, the kinds of dresses that can absolutely go home with you the same day. If you've been putting off your dress shopping because of budget or timeline concerns, this is genuinely one of the best opportunities of the year.

The dresses are already here. Our sample gowns from beloved designers like Eddy K, Christina Wu, Alyce Paris, and our own private label Marjory Anne will be available at sale pricing. These aren't mystery dresses, they're styles we've curated and love.
All of our gowns are under $2,000. We've always believed that a beautiful wedding dress shouldn't require a second mortgage. During the National Bridal Sale, you can expect even better pricing on already-affordable gowns.

What to Know Before You Come In During the Sale
A few tips from someone who has watched this play out hundreds of times:
Book your appointment. We always recommend appointments for the most personal experience, and during a sale event especially, we want to make sure we have time fully dedicated to you. Call us at (920) 261-1313 or visit sandradsbridal.com to schedule.
Bring your people — but not too many. We love that your mom and your best friend want to be there. Two or three people is the sweet spot. A crowd can make it harder to tune into your own feelings about a dress.
Know your rough size. Bridal sizing runs differently than regular clothing, but having a general sense of your size helps us pull the right samples for you.
Be open to something slightly different than what you pictured. Some of the most beautiful "yes" moments we've witnessed happened when a bride tried on something she never would have chosen off a website. That's the magic of actually being in a dress.
If you find the one, be ready to say yes. During a sale, in-stock gowns are first come, first served. We never pressure anyone, that's just not how we do things here, but we also want you to know that if it's the dress and the price is right, waiting a week to think about it might mean someone else gets it first.
What About Alterations for a Same-Day Purchase?
This is the most important practical question. Even if you take a dress home on during our July sale, you'll still need alterations unless the gown fits you like a glove (rare, but it happens!).
Our general guidance: Give yourself at least 2 months before your wedding day. Alterations have been a cornerstone of Sandra D's since day one, Sandra herself has handled fittings throughout our history, and we take the process seriously. We want your dress to fit your body, not the other way around.
